Trust 10 – walkthrough

The purpose of this post is to give a verbal and visual walkthrough of the new Lyme Park Trust 10 route to help identify where signage and/or marshals will be needed.

Start next to the Timber Yard facing towards the car park. Run a clockwise loop around the Millpond which will take you back to the start line.

Turn Left into Crow wood and follow the path to the first Stile, which involves a right turn over the stream

2016-07-13 15.40.24

This takes you to the first Stile

2016-07-13 15.41.13

Cross this and up the steps. Turn left to follow the path to Elmerhurst Wood

2016-07-13 15.41.45

Follow the path which can get slippy as you head down towards the stile into Elmerhurst Wood

2016-07-13 15.45.02

As you go over the stile and enter the wood there is a single path

2016-07-13 15.45.18

The 2KM mark is about 2/3rd of the way through the woods

2016-07-13 15.47.42

At the edge of the woods there is a Stile and a Gate which open onto Red Lane. You need to turn right here

2016-07-13 15.48.42

Head towards the Admissions Hut and turn right onto the main path

2016-07-13 15.50.05

And almost immediately bear left onto the track up Cage Hill

2016-07-13 15.50.20

This grassy track joins the stone track  about halfway up the incline. Keep heading uphill

2016-07-13 15.52.31

As you continue with the Cage ahead, a grassy path leads off to the left of the stone path and up to the Cage

2016-07-13 15.54.39

Reach the Cage and go around the left side and continue along the top of Cage Hill towards the Hall

2016-07-13 15.57.35

Part way along here is the 4KM mark, just before the rock on your right

2016-07-13 15.59.27

Continue towards the Hall and there is a smooth grassy path to your left which takes you onto East Drive. Run along this until you are approaching the edge of the Deer Sanctuary (just beyond Kennel Wood). There is a path to the right

2016-07-13 16.03.32

Head over to the Stile

2016-07-13 16.04.20

Follow the path up Caters Slack making sure you continue up the hill towards the middle path in Lantern Wood. Make sure you don’t turn off too low down

2016-07-13 16.05.17

Over the Stile, along the path and pass the Lantern itself (will be below you on the right). On the other side of the Wood, bear right towards the Deer Leap rather than the Stile (due to the mud near the latter)

2016-07-13 16.09.34

Over the Deer Leap and straight down the hill (you’re running on the moor-side rather than inside the Wood)

2016-07-13 16.10.07

As you get to the bottom of the Hill, bear left onto the path which follows the bottom of the moor along the outer edge of Hampers Wood

2016-07-13 16.11.37

As you get going around this corner, you’ll find the 6KM mark

2016-07-13 16.12.36

Follow this path until you reach the gate into Knighslow wood (on the right) – to the left is the incline up to Bowstones Farm.

2016-07-13 16.16.42

Immediately having entered the Woods take the path to the left of the main track

2016-07-13 16.16.55

This follows the wall for a while until the path splits. We’re taking the right fork which goes up the Low

2016-07-13 16.18.17

Actually the crest of this bit is very soon and you need to head across to the path through the shrubs

2016-07-13 16.18.52

Before heading down through the woods towards the Stile

2016-07-13 16.19.072016-07-13 16.19.50

Go over the Stile and  go straight on over the bridge and onto the Ridge along the edge of Cluse Hey

2016-07-13 16.20.00

As you come off the Ridge there is a gate to go up the hill towards Paddock Cottage

2016-07-13 16.22.44

As you reach Paddock Cottage, with the building to your left, follow the Ridge past the first trail down and head down the second one

2016-07-13 16.23.42

As you start to head down the hill to the next gate you reach the 8KM mark

2016-07-13 16.25.08

Go through the gate and continue down the stony park until it reaches West Park Drive. Turn RIGHT and head back towards the Knott Car Park

2016-07-13 16.29.30

We now follow what is the last section of the 3-2-1 Green Route. Cross the Knott Car Park and follow the trail keeping the Knott itself to your right

2016-07-13 16.29.56

As you reach the original driveway, turn right to head in the direction of the main Car Park

2016-07-13 16.31.17

Follow this path until you have the Dressage Area to your right. A grass trail heads off to the left and to a stile next to the stone wall

2016-07-13 16.32.33

Cross the Stile and on the other side take the left most path (still the Green Route) and follow that down towards the Millpond. Just where it joins the main path there is a large tree. Turn right here (it’s a tight bend!) to join the Millpond path

2016-07-13 16.34.31

Follow this back towards the car park and turn left to follow the main path over the stream as you have the car park to your right. There are two paths which turn left and head back to the Timber Yard, we need to take the furthest one in order to have the right distance. The finish is at the stone just beyond the Accessible Parking next to the Timber Yard.
