It seems I don’t go through stock cubes on a very regular basis. In fact it’s only when I get a visit from a friend who’s gluten-intolerant that I suddenly remember about them as I have to make sure that anything I cook us gluten-free. Roast meals are a favourite evening dinner, but gravy causes a problem as the granules, or stock cubes are regularly thickened with gluten-packed ingredients.

So the first pack I found appeared to be ‘quite out of date’

I mean, what’s three years beyond the use-by date between friends. Apart from that, they contained gluten and so with the combined fail there, they went into the museum of curiously old foods (also known as the bin).

I then found another pack of stock cubes. These may be gluten-free.

Off to the outdoor museum for these too. And off to the shops to replace them with some new stock.
